The Kwara State government, on Friday, said necessary disciplinary actions would be taken against a school teacher who allegedly assaulting a youth corps member serving in the state.
The State government, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, condemned the treatment meted to the female youth corps member serving at Government Day Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin, by teacher in the same school.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the youth corps member was on Thursday allegedly assaulted by a teacher identified as Mrs Fatima Hamzat, who accused a female Corps member of disrespect.
The head of Information and Public Relations of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the State, Morakinyo Oladipo, who confirmed the incident, said that the Scheme would seek redress on the attack against the corps member.
He said that the state government has been briefed on the matter through the Ministry of Youths Development.
Oladipo added that in the interim, the corps member would be reposted out of that vicinity, “at least to calm her down to help her overcome the trauma. It’s a fact. The story is true and we’re writing a rejoinder. All necessary steps have been taken to seek redress for the assaulted corps member.”
The commissioner for Education also described the conduct of the affected teacher as unacceptable.
She appealed to the management of the NYSC and all concerned to remain law-abiding and perform their duties without fear, “as the concerned teacher has been summoned and necessary disciplinary procedures will be taken accordingly.”
