NG-CARES Intervention: Beneficiaries Sign Utilisation Bond In Jigawa

Jigawa State government has asked the beneficiaries of Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery And Economic Stimulus  (NG-CARES ) Results Area II Intervention, to sign utilisation bonds against misuse of the grant.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after signing the bond and distributing a modern chicken incubator and other grant interventions to the beneficiaries, the Jigawa State project coordinator  J—CARES, Dr. Aliyu Inuwa, said the new rules were introduced to ensure maximum and proper utilisation of the interventions.

He said they know that some people who have received similar intervention in the past sold it at a giveaway price instead of utilising it for long-lasting economic benefits.

Dr Inuwa noted that, such bad habits is capable of compromising the aims  and objectives of the NG-CARES Programme and prevent it from achieving the desire goals.

” The NG-CARES which domesticated to J-CARES was initiated for economic recovery and enhancing the livelihood of rural communities after the devastating effect of COVID-19 pandemic to the global economy.

” In Jigawa State, as we continue to implement the programme, we are also assessing and evaluating its impacts to address any gaps and strengthen the implementation process. In view of that, we have now introduced the Utilization Bond,” he said.

The coordinator further revealed that the NG-CARES Results Area 2 has supported over 47,790 individuals in Jigawa State to recover from the devastating economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We have supported over 47,790 persons including;  3,360 rice farmers;  2,210 maize farmers;  4,330 millet farmers , 3,650 sorghum farmers and  1,660  poultry farms,” he said.

Others beneficiaries were : 5,700, received 3 goats each,  1,330, got 3 sheep each,  710 empowered with grains processing machines; 4,220 received water pumps;100 fingerlings;  1,280 were given local chicks; 100 received spaghetti-making machines among others.
