The Help the Amputee Foundation has appointed Pharmacist Luka Panya Baba, Esu Karu of New Karu in Nasarawa State, as its Grand Patron.
In a ceremony at the weekend at the Karu Emir’s Palace, Tizhe Joseph Kwaji, founder of the foundation, called on donor agencies and well-meaning individuals to assist the foundation, which was founded in 2020 as a non-profit organisation that aims to assist people with disabilities.
He said the foundation has been assisting those who lost their limbs, arms and hips and those affected in various bomb blasts from insurgencies in Nigeria.
Kwaji said the foundation had assisted disabled persons in Karomajiji, FCT, and added that in the coming year 2025, the community would also be trained on self-reliant skills. This effort, he said, had also been extended to disabled persons in Mubi, Adamawa State, and Damaturu, Yobe State.
The chairman of the foundation, Abubakar Mahmud Wambai, Madakin Mubi, said the foundation is about people with disabilities and that after careful consideration, the Sarkin Karu was found to be most befitting to be the grand patron of the organisation.
