A one-time senator representing Sokoto East Senatorial District of Sokoto State, Ibrahim Gobir, has expressed optimism that the federal government’s recent bold steps would mitigate security challenges in the country.

Senator Gobir, who now represents the North West geopolitical zone at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has been vocal on the issue of insecurity. He revealed that he has been engaging with the government and security agencies to find a lasting solution to the problem.

The former lawmaker commended the government’s efforts in tackling banditry, stating that if the government had taken such action a few years ago, the situation would not have escalated.

Meanwhile, Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force, North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Oluyinka Soyele, has demonstrated the military’s commitment to tackling terrorism and ensuring national security.

During an operational visit to the tactical headquarters of the DHQ Special Operations Brigade in Balle, Gudu local government area of Sokoto State, Major General Soleye expressed confidence in the troops’ readiness to confront the Lakurawa terrorist group along the Nigeria-Niger border.

The Theatre Commander urged troops to remain vigilant and determined in their efforts to dismantle the influence of the criminal group, which poses a threat to peace and security in border communities

He also appealed to local communities to cooperate with security forces, highlighting the crucial role of local support in the success of military operations.

“Intelligence sharing and community cooperation are essential in addressing the challenges posed by insurgency and ensuring long-term peace.

“With clear communication and collaborative efforts, the mission aims to restore security, facilitate a stable environment and promote community development and prosperity,” he said.
