The Ekiti State government ended its work-from-home policy for some categories of civil servants last year.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji initiated and approved the policy in September 2024 to cushion the effects of economic hardship and fuel subsidy removal on the state workforce.

Under the new arrangement, the officers on levels 01- 07 had since been working from home three days a week.

Also, officers on levels 08- 12 worked from home two days a week, while officers on levels 13- 17 worked from home once a week.

In a statement, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr Yinka Oyebode, said the new arrangement, which commenced on Monday, September 9, 2024, excludes essential workers like teachers, core health workers in the hospitals, and security personnel.

According to a letter from the Office of Establishment and Service Matters to all accounting officers, the cancellation was due to implementing the new minimum wage for all workers.

“It also gives the government investments in the welfare of workers and the promising contributions to the nation’s economy.”

In the letter signed by the permanent secretary, Mrs Funke Ajibola, the affected workers are enjoined to return to work from Monday.

The work-from-home policy lasted for four months before the state government cancelled it.
