Banditry: Niger Plans 3,000 Housing Units For Displaced Communities

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago has said plans were underway to construct 1,000 modern housing units each in Alawa, Kuribi and Erena for internally displaced persons as a result of banditry.

The governor disclosed this in Gwada, Shiroro local council of the state during his statewide visit to inspect ongoing projects.

He hinted that IDP camps in the state would soon be closed while new homes would be built in the three villages to accommodate displaced persons from the areas.

“We have spoken to the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umaru Farouk Bahago, to allocate free lands for government to commence the construction,” he said.

He also pointed out that government had placed orders to procure equipment from South Africa that would mold blocks for the construction of the homes.

Bago said the new homes would serve as temporary homes for the IDPs pending when the security improves in their villages.

The governor also assured that all public schools in the area affected by the activities of the bandits would be rehabilitated and equipped with teaching and learning facilities.

He urged people of the area to be patient with federal and state governments to enable them tackle the insecurity in the areas.

He promised to construct new roads from Mararaban Dan Daudu to Gwada and from Gwada to Kuta,and build a modern market in Gwada, and new general hospital among others.

Meanwhile, the senator representing Niger East senatorial district, Senator

Mohammed Sani Musa, has thanked the people of Gwada for their support to the state government, assuring that all the projects he initiated in the area would be completed.

The governor had earlier inaugurated the ICT centre built by the senator at Gwada while commending his zeal to compliment government’s efforts.
