Imumolen Awards N40m Scholarships To Winners Of National Flag Football Tourney

Chris Imumolen, a former presidential candidate of the Accord Party, has awarded a combined N40 million worth of scholarships, N20 million each, to the male and female champions of the National Secondary School Flag Football Competition.

The Lagos men’s and women’s teams are the champions of the 2025 national secondary school flag football competition.

The teams defeated Akwa Ibom sides in both categories in the finals held at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar.

Flag football is a sport synonymous with American football. However, it is a non-contact game where players wear flags on their belts and tackle each other by pulling off their flags.

Lagos edged out Akwa Ibom in a tight game in the women’s final, winning 14–12. In the men’s final, Lagos defeated Akwa Ibom convincingly with a score of 22–12, reclaiming the championship from the defending champions.

The Akwa Ibom girls secured a final spot by defeating FCT, while Lagos triumphed over Team Kwara, In the male category, Akwa Ibom overcame Oyo State, while Lagos dominated Cross River.

The male and female champions were also earned an additional N1 million each from NAFA president, Mr. Babajide Akeredolu, first runners-up (Akwa Ibom State): got N750,000 each for male and female teams, second runners-up (Cross River State male team) and FCT Female team) went home with N300,000 each respectively.

The tournament, held as part of the season 3 Akweti Bowl II American Football Tournament, aimed to foster the growth of American football in Nigeria. Mr. Akeredolu highlighted NAFA’s vision to provide more opportunities for young athletes through sports.
