Kebbi State governor, Nasir Idris, has warned parents and guardians in the state against aiding human trafficking in the guise of releasing their children to obtain better education elsewhere.

According to him, anyone found in such an act would be arrested alongside the traffickers by the state government and prosecuted in court.

The governor gave the warning on Friday when he received nine out of 19 children who were snatched by a group of traffickers in Zuru but rescued in Calabar, Cross River State.

He received the children from the state commandant of NAPTIP, Musbahu Iya Kaura at Government House, Birnin Kebbi.

“Any parent(s) found guilty of surrendering their children for monetary gains will face the legal action it deserves,” he noted.

He warneded that his administration would not allow such ugly acts to continue in Kebbi where innocent children are given by careless parents to criminals in the name of acquiring better education.

The governor directed the secretary to the state government to immediately convey the victims and unite them with their parents.

Earlier, the NAPTIP commandant in the state, Musbahu Kaura had told the governor that the children were repatriated in Calabar in hands of traffickers and available information revealed that they were sold between N280,000 and N300,000 to criminal elements as slaves.
