Mahmoud made this appeal during the commemoration of World Cancer Day 2025, organised by the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT) in Abuja.

The minister said that the current FCT Administration is not only focusing on enhancing healthcare infrastructure but is also taking proactive measures to strengthen the healthcare system, ensuring that residents have improved access to quality services, including cancer prevention and treatment.

She called for collaboration among various stakeholders to ensure that no one in the FCT is left out in the battle against cancer.

“We recognize that effectively tackling cancer requires collective efforts. That is why the FCT Administration is dedicated to forming strategic partnerships with institutions like NICRAT to boost cancer awareness, enhance preventative capacity, and improve access to screening and treatment services,” she stated.

Mahmoud commended NICRAT for its unwavering commitment to advancing cancer prevention, treatment, and research in Nigeria.

“Your dedication to raising awareness and fostering collaboration is truly admirable, and today’s event further underscores your tireless efforts,” she said.

The minister further assured that the FCT Administration stands ready to collaborate with NICRAT and all relevant stakeholders to implement impactful interventions that will enhance health outcomes for residents and ultimately save lives.

Earlier, the director general of NICRAT, Prof. Usman Aliyu, addressed the importance of World Cancer Day, emphasising its goal of raising awareness, improving education, and promoting joint action for cancer prevention while supporting those affected by the disease.

Speaking on this year’s theme, “United by Unique,” Aliyu explained the significance of collaboration in creating inclusive cancer solutions on a global scale.

He noted that since its inception, NICRAT has established and maintained robust partnerships with local and international entities for the training of the cancer workforce at all levels, as well as for research and the implementation of contemporary preventive measures.

Aliyu assured that NICRAT remains committed to working diligently to realise President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in the realm of cancer care.
