Operatives of the Nigeria Police and the Army yesterday invaded a criminal hideout located between Amegu and Umulesha in Nkalaha Community in Ishielu local government area, arresting one of the criminals suspected to have attacked Amegu Nkalaha Community and killed about 15 persons.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Joshua Ukandu said that the troops acted on credible intelligence to target the hoodlum camps located in Amegu and Umulesha villages.

He stated that on sighting the operatives, the hoodlums opened fire on them adding that the brave operatives engaged the hoodlums in a gun battle.

SP Ukandu maintained that the operatives overpowered the hoodlums with superior firepower while the suspects fled into the bush, and one was arrested during the operation.

He noted that the operatives destroyed the hoodlums’ shrines and camps in both villages and recovered two Dane guns, a mobile phone and a motorcycle.

The Police spokesperson assured that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Adaku Uche-Anya is committed to the elimination of criminal elements from Ebonyi State.

“The command remains dedicated to its efforts and will continue to pursue those involved in the attack to ensure they face justice,” the PPRO added.
