The general manager of Abia State Environmental Protection Agency, Ogbonnia Okereke has said that the government had established a plastic recycling plant in Aba.
Okereke spoke at a press briefing by the state commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu at this week’s State Executive Council meeting chaired by the governor, Alex Otti.
Announcing that the plant would be commissioned during the 2025 World Recycling Day, he noted that it is part of the government’s bid to take waste management to a higher level.
According to him, the government is partnering many organisations to set up similar plants in other parts of the state in continuation of the bid
“We started with waste collection, so to speak, but now, we want to move to recycling. We are translating from a linear economy to circular economy in waste management.”
“What we are saying in essence is that instead of wasting the waste we can always find a way of something else we can do with it.”
“We are in talks with different groups, different organisations to discuss how they can partner with us in these areas,” the GM concluded.
