The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, has raised the alarm over increasing armed robbery cases in some parts of the ancient town.

As a result, the monarch charged the newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Johnson O. Adenola, to intensify efforts in tackling security challenges in Ogbomosoland.

The monarch made this appeal when the police commissioner paid him a courtesy visit at his palace and described the visit as significant and symbolic.

He commended the police boss for prioritising Ogbomoso as his first point of call after assuming office. According to him, the visit was not just an official duty but a demonstration of the CP’s deep-rooted commitment to securing lives and property.

While acknowledging previous commissioners’ efforts and the area commander’s professionalism in Ogbomoso, the monarch highlighted the growing security concerns in the region.

Oba Ghandi expressed concerns over the increasing cases of armed robbery, particularly in Pakiotan, where over 30 homes were recently attacked.

He also raised concerns about the destructive activities of Fulani herders on farmlands and the rise in criminal activities by area boys at night.

“These challenges pose serious threats to the peace and prosperity of our people. Our farmers are suffering, and residents live in fear of armed robbery and street crimes. We need a more robust security strategy to address these issues,” the Soun stated.

In response, CP Adenola assured the monarch of his commitment to enhancing security in Ogbomosoland. He announced plans for quarterly security meetings to assess and address emerging threats. He also pledged full support for the Area Commander to strengthen law enforcement operations in the region.

The monarch emphasised that security was not solely the responsibility of the police but a collective duty of the entire community.

He urged residents to support security agencies, remain vigilant, and actively participate in crime prevention efforts.
