In the wake of recent allegations regarding the leadership transition at the IBB International Golf & Country Club, the captain of the club, Ibrahim Babayo, has set the record straight, insisting that all actions taken toward governance reforms adhered to the club’s constitution and were rooted in the principles of transparency and democratic participation.

According to Babayo, the decision to hold an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) was a rightful exercise of membership involvement in the leadership process, countering claims from Retired General IBM Haruna, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, that procedural escapism was at play.

Captain Babayo also addressed accusations surrounding “secret amendments” to the club’s constitution, clarifying that all modifications had been properly published in major newspapers and communicated via the club’s official notice board and Telegram channel.

He asserted that the amendments aimed to enhance accountability and adhere to governing laws.

Recalls that Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has halted the planned Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) of the club.

Justice Ekwo, ruling on an ex-parte motion moved by the plaintiff’s counsel, C.O. Ogbodo, ordered all parties to maintain the status quo until the substantive suit is heard and determined. The case has been adjourned to April 3 for a hearing on the motion on notice

It will be noted that the club has been enmeshed in a leadership dispute that led to the club’s closure by the Department of State Services (DSS) recently.

But Captain Babayo described legal proceedings to pause the EGM as a delay tactic against the membership’s will. He urged members to prioritize collective interests over individual agendas and reaffirmed the club’s commitment to uphold fairness and integrity in its governance processes.
