The Gamji Members Association (GAMA) has tasked governments and traditional rulers on collective fight against drug abuse.

The association decried the high rate of drug abuse amongst Nigerian youths, especially in Kwara State.

It therefore called on the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA),  other relevant agencies, parents, guardians, institutions, religious groups and traditional leaders to be more proactive in the fight against drug addiction and abuse by the youths across the country.

GAMA, an association devoted to the promotion of the ideals of the late Sardauna of Sokoto and pioneer premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, stated this in a statement issued at the end of its Eid-el-Fitr get – together luncheon in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The statement was signed by the president general of the association, Alh Mohammed Tunde Akanbi, who presided over the meeting, and the director of publicity, Alh Abdullahi Olesin.

The get- together event was sponsored by the non-executive director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Dr Mohammed Ghali Alaaya.

The group announced plans to establish youths and women wing of GAMA in furtherance of the promotion of the ideals  of the late Sir Ahmadu Bello.

It appealed to members of the political class not to overheat the politics  and ensure that the provisions of the nation’s Constitution are strictly adhered to in considering  various agitations,  particularly on the creation of either more states or local governments.

It cautioned the politicians against allowing political interests to override their decisions on national issues, adding that, ” the interest of various groups should be considered in making such moves for peace and stability to reign supreme in the country.”

The statement added:” GAMA believes in the oneness and unity of Nigeria. We  urge politicians to emulate the ideals of our founding fathers, particularly the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello.

“We plan to organise a lecture very soon in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital where all relevant people from northern Nigeria and other groups that believe in the principles and ideals of Late Sardauana will be in attendance.

“GAMA commends the chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Kwara State governor, Mallam   AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the matured ways he has been handing the activities of the forum and for his developmental strides in the state and for appointing some members of the group into positions of responsibility in the state and federal agencies and called for more of such appointments and opportunities.

“We also appreciate Governor AbdulRazaq for naming Kwara State Government House after  Sir Ahmadu Bello and also naming a flyover bridge in honour of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari and for immortalising the late Tafida of Ilorin, Dr Amuda Aluko.”

In a remark, Dr Mohammed Ghali Alaaya urged the leadership of GAMA to redouble their efforts at promoting the objectives of the association.
