The president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has expressed his satisfaction with the leadership of the Nigeria National League (NNL) board, commending their seamless organisation of the country’s second-tier league.

Gusau made these remarks during the third edition of the NNL Monthly Awards ceremony held in Abuja on Tuesday. Represented by Felix Anyansi Agwu, the first vice president of the federation, Gusau noted that the National League has undergone significant transformation and commendable progress since George Aluo took on the role of chairman.

He emphasized that the introduction of monthly awards has enhanced the league’s profile and increased competitiveness among its participants, including players, coaches, referees, and managers. This initiative encourages all stakeholders not only to strive for recognition but also to ensure transparent management and a smooth flow of league activities.

In his opening remarks, NNL chairman George Aluo acknowledged that the award recipients—players, coaches, and clubs—have demonstrated remarkable strength in promoting the image of the NNL, which he described as the most important league in the country. He emphasized that the awards are designed to honor those who have excelled in the previous month.

Aluo expressed gratitude for the support from NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, highlighting that Gusau has consistently allowed the NNL the freedom to pursue its vision and has been instrumental in the league’s achievements this season.

He further highlighted the quality of the second-tier league, noting that the impressive performances of NNL clubs have been reflected in their successes during the ongoing President Federations Cup, where they have triumphed over their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) counterparts.

“Exceptional achievements are within our reach when we stand tall on a foundation of personal integrity, hard work, and unwavering determination,” Aluo stated. “Success is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution.”

Aluo expressed his privilege and honor in recognizing the achievements of outstanding football players, team officials, and referees for the month of February 2025, who have made their families and clubs proud.

He further noted that the awards program aims to recognize young talents who have significantly contributed to the NNL, which he called “the most important league in Nigeria.” He emphasized that these talented athletes exemplify qualities that will aid their personal goals and bring glory to their football clubs and organizations.

“Today, we gather not just to celebrate the achievements of our players, but also to uphold the values and morals that these awardees exemplify, such as discipline, compassion, and a zeal for learning,” Aluo explained.

He reiterated that the awards serve to encourage good performances and behavior while fostering a competitive spirit. This commitment has led the NNL, alongside its partners, to organize monthly award ceremonies that celebrate outstanding footballers, officials, and referees.

“We are here to present awards in seven categories: the Best Behaved Team, Best Coach, Best Goalkeeper, Goal of the Month, Highest Goal Scorer, Most Valuable Player, and Best Referee,” he concluded.
