Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has pledged his administration’s support for the construction of access roads and drainage systems around the newly established Girls Science and Islamic Studies Secondary School in Zango town.

The school, built by renowned philanthropist and elder statesman, Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura, under the Maryam Endowment Fund, was inspected by the Governor recently.

During the visit, Governor Radda commended the project as a significant contribution to the state’s educational development and a timely response to government’s call for private sector and community involvement.

“This school project is complementary to the government’s responsibilities on education, and we appreciate this effort by a well-meaning elder in the society,” Governor Radda said. “We will look into the requests for access roads and drainage, and we are committed to supporting their construction.”

The Governor further emphasized the importance of the school in encouraging girl-child education, particularly in science and Islamic studies.

Earlier, the project consultant, Engineer Abba Mato, highlighted the scope of the project, noting that it includes 20 classroom blocks, multipurpose assembly halls, two female hostels, staff quarters, an NYSC lodge, mosque, ICT center, and administrative block.

He however pointed out that the access roads and drainage systems are the only outstanding components and appealed to the Governor for intervention.

The inspection was attended by key dignitaries including the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura; Senator representing Daura Zone, Nasiru Sani Zango; Member representing Baure-Zango Federal Constituency, Alhaji Sani Lawal; National Coordinator of NEPAD, Alhaji Jabiru Abdullahi Tsauri; and members of the State Executive Council.

Governor Radda’s visit and assurance mark a step forward in the collaborative efforts between government and private citizens to strengthen infrastructure and educational opportunities in Katsina State.

As Daura Emirate Turbans 3 Personalities

It was a day of color, culture, and commendation in the ancient city of Daura as the Emirate held a historic turbaning ceremony, honoring three distinguished personalities for their outstanding service to society and contribution to nation-building.

The Emir of Daura, His Royal Highness Alhaji Faruq Umar Faruq, conferred prestigious traditional titles on the Katsina State Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Hamza Suleiman Faskari, who was turbaned as Sadaukin Kasar Hausa; Samir Isma’ila Musawa, now Bulaman Kasar Hausa; and Hon. Ado Alhassan Doguwa, a prominent federal lawmaker from Kano State, who was bestowed with the revered title of Sardaunan Kasar Hausa Mai Tuta.

Held at the majestic palace of the Emir, the event was a convergence of royalty, political leadership, and cultural heritage. The significance of the titles steeped in Hausa tradition reflects recognition of courage, leadership, and unwavering service to humanity.

The turbaning not only elevated the recipients’ standing within the Emirate but also highlighted the ongoing relevance of traditional institutions in reinforcing national values.
The ceremony drew a distinguished crowd, including Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State, who has continually demonstrated respect and support for traditional institutions.

Others in attendance included Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, Deputy Governors Faruq Lawal Jobe (Katsina) and Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo (Kano), as well as Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, and Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura, Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly.

Also present were members of both State and Federal Assemblies, top government officials, traditional rulers, and well-wishers from across the country, lending grandeur and national relevance to the occasion.

In his remarks, Emir Faruq Umar Faruq made it clear that the Daura Emirate does not bestow titles arbitrarily.

“We give traditional titles only to personalities who have distinguished themselves in serving humanity and contributing to the growth and development of society,” he emphasized.

He went on to praise Governor Radda for his administration’s proactive stance on security and development, urging other leaders to follow his example.

On the sidelines of the turbaning, Governor Radda also graced the wedding fatiha of Farina Abdulrazak Yahya Daura and Idris M. Idris, held at the family residence of Speaker Nasir Yahaya Daura.

The event, warm and joyful, attracted guests from near and far, including former Governor Aminu Bello Masari, NEPAD National Coordinator Alhaji Jabiru Salisu Tsauri, and numerous dignitaries from both the legislative and executive arms.

The dual events one celebrating personal joy and the other, public honor offered a poignant reminder of Daura’s unique role as both the heart of Hausa culture and a hub of contemporary leadership.

By honoring these individuals with traditional titles, the Daura Emirate continues to bridge the past and the present, celebrating achievements that align with the values of service, integrity, and leadership.

As the turbaned leaders take on their new roles, they carry with them the weight of tradition and the responsibility of representing the ideals that the titles symbolize.

In a time when society seeks models of character and commitment, the Daura turbaning stands out not only as a ceremonial event but as a reaffirmation of what leadership should represent.
