28-yr-old Electrician Electrocuted In Oyo

A 28-year-old electrician has been electrocuted while trying to rectify an electrical fault on active power lines at Odo Babaode in Eruwa, the headquarters of Ibarapa East local government area of Oyo State.

The General Manager Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Akinyemi Akinyinka, who confirmed the incident, said a distressed call was reported at 3:29pm on Wednesday through a caller identified as Mr Adelanre Adeyinka.

He said fire personnel led by PFS1 Peluola Babatunde quickly followed the caller and on arrival, “We met the victim already electrocuted and all necessary precautionary measures were observed so as to safeguard the citizens within the vicinity.

“The man was recovered from the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) 33KV High Tension Cables and handed over to a team of police from Eruwa Police Station”.

Akinyinka added that the incident occurred when the victim was trying to rectify electrical fault on active power lines without the shutdown of the feeder.

He maintained that “only trained engineer or technician should be shouldering the responsibility of handling active electrical equipment.”
