Our investigations in some markets in Enugu revealed that there was a crash in the prices of food items like beans, rice and onions.

It was also observed that the prices of pumpkin leaves, popularly known as Ugu, and tomatoes are gradually decreasing.

An exclusive investigation by our correspondent revealed that a ‘painter’ of rice is now sold at between N5,500 and N6,000, as opposed to the N7,000 and N8,000 it was sold for before.

Also, a ‘painter’ of beans sold for between N7,000 and N8,000 is now being sold at N5,000.
Our investigation further revealed that big onions sold at N700 before are now being sold at N400, but the price of pepper remains worrisome as it has refused to go down.

A resident of Amokwe Street, Mrs Ifeoma Ukeje, expressed happiness over the crash in the prices of some food items, saying she expects that soon all the prices of other food items will crash.

Also speaking, Mr Ignatius Okonkwo described the crash as a significant relief to them, saying they were spending a lot to feed members of their families.

” It is a big relief to all of us because I know how much I was spending to make sure that members of my family would not go hungry, and so it is a good development for us here,” he stated.
