The Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, Hon. Edward Masha Percy, said they remain unshakable amid defection.
According to Masha, the party still controls the three Senatorial Districts. He added that since coming into office, he has dedicated himself to consulting with critical stakeholders to strengthen the party, reunite members, enhance confidence, and consolidate its place as a beacon of hope for the people.
“Six months into this remarkable journey, we’ve recorded successes, overcome challenges, and opened new frontiers for the party’s rebound,” Masha said during a media chat at Kaduna’s office yesterday.
Masha went further, saying, “We faced challenges, including the APC’s planned rigging of the 2024 LG Council elections, which we thwarted and a wave of defection that saw some of our stakeholders, including elected office holders, join the ranks of the ruling APC.
“Notwithstanding, we have remained unshaken and committed to working with leaders to retain our three senators, surpass the six members of the House of Representatives, about a dozen members of the House of Assembly, and other critical stakeholders.
“We’ve also initiated a healing process, led by Hon. Shuaibu Idris Miqati, which genuine members have embraced. We have opened our doors to welcoming and receiving progressive people from other parties, laying a strong foundation for a political movement to oust the APC and restore good governance in 2027,” Masha said.
According to the Chairman, the Uba Sani administration’s “Sustain Agenda”, which was designed to “sustain” the painful policies and programmes of his predecessor, has made life more difficult and hopeless for citizens.”
“With security challenges, mediocrity, corruption, poor project execution, flagrant abuse of due process, and excessive waste of public resources, especially in organising flamboyant groundbreaking ceremonies for projects never executed or completed.
“There has been an increasing reign of terror, with bandits and kidnappers having field days in Kauru, Kaura, Zangon Kataf, Kajuru, Lere, Birnin Gwari, and a host of other areas, mainly because the state government failed to complement the efforts of our federal security forces. Hunger is ravaging, workers’ unions are striking, our hospitals are in disarray, and rural infrastructure has been neglected, and the state government remains clueless.
“Thankfully, our legislators have provided viable alternatives, including boreholes, classrooms, laboratories, healthcare facilities/equipment, scholarships, empowerment programs, fertiliser and other farming inputs, free Medicare, and other support initiatives for the poor and vulnerable.
“There’s no debate that our people desire change, and the PDP is committed to ushering in a new dawn. We’re progressing in sacking the 23 LG Council chairmen and 255 councillors and restoring democratic governance through the court. We’ll continue to push for what’s right, expose government inadequacies, and offer alternative solutions until we recover our state in 2027, no matter the cost.
“I’m confident the PDP will consolidate its gains of 2023, winning the 2027 governorship election and defending the people’s mandate. Never again will the APC steal the people’s mandate, as our ever-conscious members would strongly resist any attempt to do so. I’m prepared to lead this revolution with tact, courage, tenacity, and commitment never before seen in the history of opposition politics in the state.”
