The management of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) Makurdi has commended Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration for achieving unprecedented progress within two years without borrowing, a feat unmatched by any civilian government since the institution’s establishment.

The chief medical director, BSUTH, Dr. Stephen Hwande who made this known why conducting journalists round some of the new projects embarked upon by Governor Hyacinth Alia led administration warned political propagandas who did not utilise the opportunity given to them to serve the state to steer clear of Alia’s administration.

According to Hwande, “Governor Alia is the First Governor to allocate 15 per cent of the 2025 budget to the Health sector since the creation of the State to ensure that the people of Benue get affordable and quality healthcare services.”

During a visit to the BSUTH Cancer Centre project, which is under construction, Dr. Hwande explained that the facility, which is the first of its kind in all the State Teaching hospitals, would serve as a referral centre for all cancer patients in the country, especially in the North Central, adding that the project will be completed in November 2025.

At the newly completed Pharmacological Centre, the CMD said, the One Stop Pharmacy, which has a cold room to regulate all stored drugs as well as high-tech renal Dialysis consumables, was built and completed in 90 days.

Dr. Hwande also applauded the governor for the purchase and installation of a Magnetic Resonance Imaging Machine (MRI), a sophisticated scanning machine that is running ten cases every day, as well as the creation of Amenity wards and the College of Community Health Workers, comprising Four Schools headed by a provost.

During a visit to the 230 000 litres Waterworks project, Dr Hwande said that upon his resumption as the CMD of BSUTH, they had the issue of perennial water scarcity.

Some patients’ relatives were even going down the River Benue, which is a stone’s throw away, to bathe and get some water. “So, I briefed the Governor about the situation, and he immediately approved the construction of this waterworks project, which can serve the hospital and the host community,” he said.

In an interview, the contractor handling the project, Don Ter Ode, Kanode Nigeria Ltd for Iorgbash Investment Ltd, described Alia as a man of his words. He said this water project, which is 85 per cent complete, will be completed before May 29, and this will put to an end the issue of water scarcity in the hospital because the hospital only needs 120,000 litres of water daily.

Dr. Hwande who acknowledged the developmental strides of the Governor in all sectors especially the Health sector warned political jobbers against the unnecessary pull -me-down syndrome which he said will not help the State in anyway.

“We have gone past the level of social media attack, what we are doing now is development, anyone hiding under the social media to fabricate lies against the Alia Government should ensure to have his or her own facts to buttress such lies, all the projects done by this administration are not hidden they are all there for public consumption.

“We are all in Benue State no Governor has done what Alia has achieved within 2 years in the health sector, BSUTH is doing assisted reproductive Technology here at affordable rate and many people who could not afford this are now having babies of their own, so for the records the Governor is poised to bring back the lost glory of Benue in all spheres of life, and I want to tell you without fear or favour,” he said.

Our correspondent reports that projects completed for commissioning on May 29 at BSUTH include Benue Cancer Centre, Therapeutic Centre for children with special needs, Pharmaceutical and Surgical Complex, 230,000 litre per day Capacity Water Works among others.
