As part of the preparations for the anticipated National Executive Committee (NEC), the acting national secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. (Arc) Setonji Koshoedo, yesterday met with PDP staff.
The meeting which was held at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja centered around resuming full activities at the party ahead of the much-anticipated NEC meeting was finally fixed for May 27, 2025, at last month’s meeting of PDP governors and party leaders in Ibadan.
The NEC, the highest decision making organ of the party, after the national convention, had been postponed six times.
The Ibadan meeting had also asked Koshoedo to assume the national secretary position in a bid to resolve the lengthy winding dispute between Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Hon Sunday Ude-Okoye for the top seat.
However, yesterday’s meeting comes after weeks of almost grounded party activity following the national secretary dispute.
A party offical at the meeting, disclosed that it was a morale boost and reinvigoration of activities.
“The meeting was a major step by the Acting National Secretary in his efforts to reposition and strengthen the party’s workforce for the task ahead Including preparing the Secretariat for the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for May 27, 2025, and the National Convention slated for August 28 to 30, 2025.
“During the meeting, Hon. Koshoedo emphasized his commitment to advancing the National Working Committee’s (NWC) agenda of reunification, rebuilding, and repositioning the PDP as a formidable opposition party.
“He reiterated his dedication to energizing party structures at all levels, from grassroots to national, to strengthen the PDP’s role in Nigeria’s political landscape.”
The party offical added that the acting national secretary briefed the staff on preparations for the NEC meeting, which is expected to address critical issues, including the zoning arrangements for national offices ahead of the National Convention and strategies to address other challenges facing the party.
“Koshoedo assured that the NWC is taking decisive steps to restore order and chart a path toward the 2027 general elections.
“Koshoedo, who assumed the role of Acting National Secretary following the directive of the NWC, called on staff to cooperate fully in implementing the party’s directives.”
He highlighted the importance of aligning all party organs with the NWC’s vision to rebuild trust and credibility among members and the public.
