Lagos State House of Assembly has moved a motion calling on the Commissioner of Police, Mr Moshod Jimoh, to arrest and prosecute miscreants found extorting money from motorists whenever their vehicles break down.

During the plenary, which was presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, yesterday, also enjoined Chairman National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Brigadier General Buba Marwa (rtd) to arrest and flush out youths in neighbourhoods across the state who rely on an excess intake of drugs to embolden them before embarking on nefarious activities.

Moving the motion under matters of urgent public importance, Hon. Ganiyu Okanlawon also spoke about the need for the executive arm of government to equip Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps members and install Closed-Circuit Television (CCTC) at black spots for easy identification and apprehension of culprits.

In his contribution, Hon Desmond Eliot said that street urchins are in every neighbourhood and that the Local government Chairmen should be able to identify the youths in their communities.
The Lawmakers reechoed the importance of establishing state police so that indigenous people who understand the terrain could provide adequate security in every nook and cranny of the state.

In a separate development, Hon Gbolahan Yishawu proposed that the state’s Ministries, Departments and Agencies should be invited to defend their budgets quarterly.
