The General Manager of Oyo State Fire Service Agency, Akinyemi Akinyinka who confirmed the incidents in Ibadan on Saturday, said the agency attended to a fire incident at No 3 Bolarinwa Street, Decart area of Ring Road in Ibadan.

Akinyinka narrated that a distressed call was reported on Friday at 4:05pm through the phone that a house was on fire and a crew of firemen led by ACFS Adekola was quickly deployed to the scene.

On arrival, he said the personnel noticed that the three bedrooms flat at the upper floor of a single storey residential building was burning.

“We promptly swung into action and the fire was restricted from spreading to other unaffected properties and nearby buildings.

“No casualty was recorded and properties worth millions of naira was damaged by the fire,” Akinyinka said.

He attributed the cause of the fire to surge of electricity and ignited combustibles.

“The OIC charged the public to always be conscious of fire and they should make sure that every home has fire extinguisher equipment in case of any eventuality”, he added.

Similarly, the agency combated a fire incident at Police Barracks, Omolewa in the Yemetu area of Ibadan.

According to the General Manager, the incident was reported at 2:09am on Saturday through one Mr S.O. Soyombo.

Firefighters led by ACFS Adedeji (Mrs), promptly deployed to the scene where it was discovered that lock-up shops were on fire.

The personnel swung into action “and we were able to curtail the fire in time. The fire was restricted from gaining momentum to other nearby shops.”

He added that no casualty recorded, but six (6), out of 24 shops were affected by fire.

Akinyinka blamed the incident on overheated plugged deep freezer that was left unattended overnight which caught fire and set the place ablaze.

In the same vein, the agency averted a fire incident at Omowunmi Hotel at Sawmill, Adeleke Area of Ogbomoso, on Saturday.

According to him, an emergency call was received through one Mr Kunle Aderibigbe who reported a fire outbreak at the hotel.

Led by ACFS Dairo, the firefighters quickly responded to the incident where a Toyota Hiace 18-seater bus registered no: LAGOS ABC553XD packed inside the hotel had caught fire.

He added that the fire was extinguished within the twinkle of an eye.
