The leadership of the National Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) has raised the alarm over an alleged plan by some individuals within the association to organise a parallel congress to elect a new executive committee.

Addressing journalists in Osogbo, Osun State, the National Publicity Secretary, Dr Precious Ademola Ekundayo, flanked by the National Legal Adviser, Alhaji Jimoh Abiodun, and the National and Welfare Office, Alhaji Sakariyau Eniola, declared the purported congress slated for Abuja on Thursday unconstitutional.

While advising the organisers to be patient, Ekundayo stated that the national president, Alhaji Kazeem Danjuma Haruna, has already consented to organising a national congress in July this year.

“I wish to inform the whole world through the media that the illegal NEC meeting is against the constitution of NAPTAN.

“At this juncture, I wish to reiterate that the tenure of the current executives of the association led by our indefatigable national president, Alhaji Haruna Danjuma is still intact and measures are being made to ensure smooth transition of power at the appropriate time in line with the constitution of the association and in conformity with due process”.
