Tinubu Wants APC To Win Anambra – Ukachukwu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Anambra State, Nicholas Ukachukwu, disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has charged the leadership of the APC to ensure the party wins the November 8, 2025 governorship election.

He also declared that his defection from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the APC, alongside his supporters, has significantly strengthened the party ahead of the election.

Ukachukwu made the declaration on Monday after Tinubu formally handed him the symbolic APC flag at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, signaling his official recognition as the party’s standard-bearer in the forthcoming election.

Ukachukwu disclosed that Tinubu was pleased with the party’s momentum in Anambra and had charged the leadership to deliver the state to the APC fold.

“He gave us the charge to bring Anambra to the centre. He was happy with how ready we are. Now it’s time to deliver,” he said.

Speaking on the strength of APC, he said “When I left APGA, I left with all my supporters. That makes APC stronger.”

He added that the APC is now in a strong position to defeat the incumbent Governor Charles Soludo, whose party, APGA, he described as weakened by internal defections and loss of grassroots support.
Ukachukwu, a former APGA senatorial candidate and one-time running mate to Governor Soludo, said the opposition party no longer has the political strength it once wielded in the state.

“I ran on a joint ticket with the current governor. I was a former APGA senatorial candidate. Now we’ve all joined APC — myself, my deputy, and other leaders across the zones,” he explained. “It means nothing is left of APGA in the state.”

The businessman-turned-politician described his candidacy as a rallying point for a broader political movement in Anambra, revealing that other parties, including the Labour Party and the Young Progressives Party (YPP), are aligning with the APC in a growing anti-incumbency coalition.

“Over 80 support groups have aligned with us. People from Labour, YPP, even APGA, are joining us,” he said. “We’ve seen it happen in Zamfara, in Imo — incumbents have lost before, even in Anambra. Now the real leaders are with APC.”

On internal unity following the APC primaries in the state, Ukachukwu said nearly all aggrieved factions had been reconciled by the party’s National Working Committee led by its chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

He maintained that APC in Anambra is now more cohesive and prepared for the polls, noting that the party has built strong structures and grassroots presence across the three senatorial zones.

“Our focus now is total mobilization. We are united, we are ready, and we are bringing home victory for APC in Anambra,” Ukachukwu stated.
