Renaissance Varsity VC Warns Against Cultism, Drug Abuse

The vice chancellor of Renaissance University, Ugbawka, Enugu State, Prof Thaddeus Chukwuka Eze, has warned newly admitted students against cultism, drug and other substance abuse. He said the school is committed to academic excellence and moral discipline.

Prof Eze who gave the warning during the 18th Matriculation Ceremony of the institution welcomed the fresh students into its various colleges in the institution.

“Let me assure the attendees that this great institution maintains a zero-tolerance policy for cultism, drugs, or substance abuse. Let me also emphasise the university’s commitment to academic excellence and moral discipline.

“Renaissance University is a full-boarding institution with a robust feeding program designed to reduce financial pressure on parents and save our students from consuming harmful substances outside the school environment,” he said.

“We operate an ecumenical system. All Christian denominations are welcome here, and the spiritual life of our students is of utmost priority. We are also committed to the holistic development of students under the university’s care,” he added.

The university registrar, Mr. Adedeji Olusola, took turns conducting the matriculation proceedings for Students of the College of Health Sciences, the College of Computing, the College of Natural and Applied Sciences, and the College of Management with the matriculation oath.

Prof. Chukwudi Okani, in his keynote address, admonished the matriculating students to manage their time, choose friends carefully, respect their lecturers and ensure that they are good ambassadors of their various families.

“A healthy student is a productive student. Students must prioritize their health while pursuing academic success,” he said.

A parent, Mr. Edeh, expressed amazement at the infrastructural transformation on the campus and commended the university management for its infrastructural development being carried out.

“I visited just a year ago, and I’m surprised at the massive changes I see now. The progress is commendable,” he said.

Another parent, Mrs. Okafor, appreciated the university’s efforts in ensuring student security. “Knowing my child is safe gives me peace. The security measures here are impressive,” she noted.
