President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to meet the demands of modern policing.

Tinubu stated this on Wednesday in Abuja in an address delivered on his behalf by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio at the second edition of the Nigeria Police Award and Commendation Ceremony.

“My administration remains steadfast in its commitment to the transformation of the Nigeria Police Force and, indeed, to transforming other security agencies.

“We understand that modern policing demands modern tools, continuous training, intelligence-led strategies, and community partnership.

“We will continue to invest in cutting-edge equipment, technological support, capacity-building programmes, and welfare schemes aimed at enhancing professional efficiency and boosting morale across all ranks,” the president said.

While pledging continued federal support, Tinubu also charged police officers to uphold the trust placed in them by Nigerians.

“You must be guided by the highest standards of accountability and professionalism. Uphold the rule of law, protect the rights of every citizen, and reject all forms of misconduct and corruption,” he said.

Addressing recipients of the award, Tinubu congratulated them and charged them not to rest on their achievements.

“You have reminded us what is possible when duty meets dedication and when service is driven by honour. But do not rest on your laurels. Let your example inspire others within the Force to emulate your discipline, hard work, professionalism, and integrity.

“This ceremony is more than a moment of celebration—it is a call to renewed service and a reminder of the values we must uphold and the future we must build together as Nigerians,” the president said.

In his remarks, Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced a personal donation of ₦5 million to the family of late Assistant Commissioner of Police Aniedi Cecilia Udoh, one of the awardees who died in active service in May 2024.

Udoh, who hailed from Akwa Ibom State was until her death the Area Commander in Ahoada, Rivers State Command.

She was posthumously honoured as the Community Policing Advocate of the Year 2024.

Akpabio also recalled his long-standing support for the police, noting that during his tenure as Governor of Akwa Ibom State, he provided 350 vehicles equipped with communication devices, four armoured personnel carriers, and marine platforms.

The Senate President also recalled building a Mobile Police Base and a Police Secondary School at no cost to the Force.

“As Senate President, I have completed 10 police stations in my senatorial district. I’m not tired of supporting the police. On behalf of the National Assembly, I assure you that we will stop at nothing to appropriate the necessary funds to improve not just welfare, but also the strength of police personnel to ensure effective policing in Nigeria,” Akpabio said.

In his welcome remarks, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun stated that the transformation of the Nigeria Police is not just a slogan but a daily commitment.

“This occasion is not just about laurels—it’s about legacy. It reminds us that the business of policing is not transactional. It is transformational. And you, the Nigerian people, are our most important partners on this journey,” he said.
