The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II continued his annual Durbar tradition with a modified version of the event on the fourth day, defying the usual spectacle of traditional horse rides.

In a break from the norm, this year’s procession was carried out in a motorcade in compliance with the police-imposed ban on the customary horse-riding display.

LEADERSHIP reports that the fanfare began with a departure from the Kofar Kudu palace, as the Emir, accompanied by dignitaries, royal aides, and followers, made their way toward Fanisau, a settlement in the Ungoggo local government area of the state.

Despite the shift from the usual grandeur of the Durbar, which historically showcases a colorful parade of horsemen and royal attendants, the motorcade procession was no less festive as the streets were lined with enthusiastic onlookers who gathered to witness the Emir’s passage.

Our correspondent recalls that for the second consecutive year, the Kano State Police Command had cited security concerns as the reason behind the ban on horse-riding aspect of the annual Durbar.
