This is just as the Service also handed over 1, 037 parcels of Cannabis Sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) command in the state.

The contraband, whose Duty Payable Value (DPV) was put at over N344 million, was among the seizures recorded by the command between 24 April and 18 June 2025.

Speaking while handing over the prohibited items to the police and the NDLEA officials at the Idiroko Border, the command’s Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Godwin Otunla, said the ammunitions, which consisted of dane guns, 1,433 rounds of live cartridges and the explosives, were intercepted in different locations within Ogun State, including Lusada/Ado-Odo axis; Abule Kazeem/Igbo-Ora road; Abeokuta axis; Imeko axis; Idiroko/Owode axis; Ipokia axis, among others.

Otunla listed other items seized, including 2,627 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice, four units of used vehicles, including a 2022 GLE Mercedes-Benz SUV, a 2014 MLS Mercedes-Benz SUV, and a 2011 Hyundai Elantra sedan, seven units of means of conveyance, and 29 bundles of used pneumatic tyres.

The controller explained that his command had intensified surveillance, deployed strategic intelligence and stretched collaboration with security agencies and community stakeholders to enhance border operations.

He further stated that the handing over of contrabands aligned with the spirit of inter-agency cooperation.

While expressing his appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his dynamic leadership, unflinching support and consistent encouragement, Otunla declared to sustain the heat on the smugglers and their collaborators.

Meanwhile, the Customs boss said that his command increased its revenue in April 2025 from N10, 621, 250m to N42, 279, 240 million by the end of May 2025.

He, however, attributed the increase to the blockage of revenue leaks, compliance and fostering of legitimate trade across the borders.
