Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have foiled a robbery attempt in the Zone E Extension area of Apo Resettlement, Abuja.
The incident, which occurred around 10:30 PM on June 23, 2025, left three persons injured, with one victim later confirmed dead.
Spokesperson of the FCT police command, SP Josephine Adeh, said the arrest was made after acting on a distress call from a commercial motorcycle rider, reporting heavy gunfire in the area.
The divisional police officer of Apo Division, CSP Uchenna Igwebuike, immediately deployed Ambush and Surveillance Teams to the scene. A reinforcement led by the deputy commissioner of police in charge of operations, DCP Isyaku Sharu, also joined, forcing the assailants to flee after a gun duel.
The police explained that three victims injured by the attackers were taken to Sahad Hospital, Apo. One later succumbed to his injuries. A light green Toyota Corolla with plate number GWA 620 AU was recovered from the scene.
Commissioner of police, FCT, Ajao Adewale, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and assured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to safety and security.
He also urged the public, particularly residents in and around Apo Resettlement, to report anyone with gunshot wounds or suspicious injuries.
Meanwhile, a joint manhunt operation involving police personnel and local vigilantes is underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
