Athletics powerhouses such as Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Egypt will be present, alongside strong contenders including Ghana, Algeria, Morocco, Cameroon, and Uganda.

Media assistant to the chairman of the local organising committee, Kola Daniel, stated in a release on Thursday morning, that host nation Nigeria is leading the delegation with a total of 132 participants, comprising 60 male athletes, 50 female athletes, and 22 officials.

South Africa follows closely with a contingent of 100 members, including 42 men, 40 women, and 18 officials.

Ethiopia is sending a robust team of 69 delegates, which includes 30 male athletes, 27 female athletes, and 12 officials.

Kenya is also well represented, with 25 men, 25 women, and 17 officials for a total of 67 participants.

Algeria has confirmed 65 representatives, consisting of 30 men, 19 women, and 16 officials.

This high-profile sporting event comes shortly after Abeokuta successfully hosted over 15,000 athletes and officials at the Gateway Games 2024, the 22nd National Sports Festival, where the city received accolades for its excellent organisation, hospitality, and infrastructure.

This success has positioned Abeokuta as an emerging destination for major sporting events within Africa.

As Nigeria continues to cement its status as a leading hub for sports development, youth engagement, and international competition, the upcoming African U18/U20 Championships is set to showcase Africa’s next generation of track and field stars, combining youthful energy with a strong sense of continental pride.

The event is certified by the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), ensuring a high standard of competition and organisation.
