Transfer: Gyökeres’ Move To Arsenal On The Verge Of Collapse

Viktor Gyökeres’ proposed transfer from Sporting Lisbon to Arsenal has hit a roadblock due to disagreements over the player’s valuation in ongoing negotiations.

Arsenal have identified the Swedish striker as their top target, prioritising him over Benjamin Šeško in their quest for a centre-forward this summer. Gyökeres is reportedly willing to commit to a five-year deal with the North London club, and he has been awaiting resolution on the transfer fee between the two clubs.

However, fresh reports indicate that discussions have reached an impasse, placing the transfer at risk of collapse. Sources suggest that talks have not progressed since the weekend, with both clubs firmly entrenched in their positions regarding the player’s valuation.

Gyökeres reportedly believes he has a gentleman’s agreement that would allow him to leave for €60 million, plus an additional €10 million in performance-related bonuses (£51.7 million plus £8.6 million). Sporting Lisbon, however, appears to contest this interpretation.

Arsenal are said to have submitted a formal offer of €65 million, inclusive of €15 million in add-ons (£56 million plus £12.9 million). Yet, Sporting Lisbon are currently holding out for a fixed €70 million (£60.4 million), rejecting any performance-based components.

Following this deadlock, representatives from Arsenal have returned to London after their trip to Lisbon without securing a deal. The Premier League side is now believed to be reassessing their position and may withdraw from the negotiations entirely unless Sporting Lisbon reconsiders their stance in future discussions.
