The Umaru Shinkafi Legacy Foundation (USLF) has rewarded undergraduate students of Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States of the North West Zone who participated in an essay competition.
The coordinator of the competition, Jamilu Bala Ajiya, told journalists in Birnin Kebbi that USLF established in 2016, is to uphold the legacies of the late icon, Alhaji Umaru Shinkafi.
He said since inception, USLF had implemented a series of impactful annual initiatives, including Ramadan charity programme, offering scholarships to the underprivileged students and two high-level security submit.
“In 2025, the foundation has concluded its first Regional Essay Competition which marks another milestone in its ongoing commitment to promoting education and youth empowerment. “The official presentation of the award prizes along with prayers for the deceased was held in July 2025 at the premises of Umaru Shinkafi Polytechnic in Sokoto,” he said.
Ajiya announced that at the closing of the entries, a total of 610 students from 25 tertiary institutions in the Northwest will receive their prizes based on categories of 1st,2nd and 3rd positions.
Some of the winners include Abubakar Idris from UDUS who emerged as the overall winner, Hafiz Sani Galadima also from UDUS 2nd and Malama Asiya Muhammed Dansanda from FUGUS 3rd.
In total, 15 winners were selected to receive cash prizes ranging from N800,000 and N100,000 together with brand new tricycles and other special prizes.
In her message, the president-elect of the Union for International Cancer Control ( UICC) and CEO of Medicaid Cancer Foundation, Dr Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu congratulated all the winners and reaffirmed USLF’s commitment to promoting intellectual development and meaningful public discourse among young students in the North West of Nigeria.
