In a  move to boost Nigeria’s dairy industry and promote peace between herders and farmers, the federal government, in collaboration with L&Z Integrated Farms, has inaugurated a Milk Collection Centre in Adamami, a rural community in Shira local government area of Bauchi State.

Our correspondent reports that the initiative is part of efforts to strengthen the country’s dairy value chain while addressing persistent conflicts between farmers and herders, which have often led to violence, displacement, and insecurity across rural communities.

Also, the Adamami Milk Collection Centre is expected to serve as a hub for herders in the region, offering a ready market for their milk, reducing post-harvest losses, and encouraging hygienic practices in milk handling.

Speaking during the centre’s commissioning on Tuesday, Muhammad Abubakar, the CEO of L&Z Integrated Farms, described it as a strategic intervention with multiple benefits.

“This is more than just a milk collection facility. It’s a step toward ending farmers-herders clashes, banditry, and armed robbery in rural areas through meaningful job creation,” he said.

Abubakar emphasised that sustained peace between herders and farmers is critical for Nigeria’s dairy value chain’s success.

He also warned against the adulteration of dairy products, revealing that the facility is equipped with tools to detect impurities in milk to ensure quality and safety.

Abubakar pleaded with the Bauchi government to establish a nomadic school in the community, providing educational opportunities to the children of pastoral families who are often left behind in formal education.

Chairman of Shira local government area, Babangida Maliya, praised the initiative, noting its potential to enhance security for women and girls in nomadic communities.

“Teenage girls and mothers often return late from farms, putting them at risk. This project reduces that risk by providing alternative livelihoods and education,” he said.

Maliya further disclosed plans to introduce adult literacy programmes for women and called on Fulani leaders to mobilise children for school enrollment, stressing that education is essential for breaking cycles of poverty and insecurity in rural areas.
