The Kano State government has warned all public officials against involving themselves in any matter related to public interest without securing a prior approval from government.
Spokesperson of the governor, Sanusi Bature, gave the warning during a press briefing following the resignation of the state commissioner for transportation who was involved in the bail of a drug baron in the state.
He reiterated the commitments of the state government under the leadership of Governor Abba Yusuf in fighting against drug abuse and other social vices, including phone snatching and political thuggery.
“The state is committing a lot of resources to this issue to ensure safety and security of the state, particularly the metropolis where unpatriotic youths are orchestrating a lot of crime,” he said.
On the issue of the embattled former transportation commissioner, Ibrahim Namadi, Bature said he has resigned his appointment with immediate effect, and the matter has been put to rest.
While appreciating the members of the investigative committee under the leadership of Barr. Aminu Husseini, who is also the adviser to the governor on justice and constitution matters, he noted that the committee has been dissolved, while their report is been studied by the governor.
In a related development, Kano State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested one 42-year-old Basiru Ahmed, for being in possession of over 106 parcel of substances believed to be Indian hemp (Cannabis sativa).
The command’s spokesperson, SC Ibrahim Abdullahi, issued a statement yesterday stating that the suspect was arrested at Salanta, in the Gwale local government area of the state, following credible intelligence reports.
He noted that the suspect was caught red-handed selling and distributing the illegal substance within the community.
He also hinted that the suspect has since been handed over to the state command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and necessary legal action.
In a related development, SC Abdullahi said another 22-year-old Muhammad AbbasĀ was nabbed atĀ Gurungawa, in Kumbotso LGA, for allegedly burgling residential homes and carting away valuable property worth hundreds of thousands of Naira.
“The suspect, who had been on the security watch list for some time, was apprehended during a coordinated patrol aimed at curbing theft and other criminal activities in the area.
“The suspect will be charged in Court upon completion of the investigation,” he stated.
The command, howeverĀ , urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely information that will assist in ridding the community of criminal elements.
