African Democratic Congress (ADC) 2023 Governorship Candidates Forum has endorsed Hon. Nafiu Bala as the party’s acting national chairman, following their insistence that the former national chairman Ralph Nwosu resigned.
Speaking on behalf of the forum at a press briefing in Abuja, Engr Terhemen Tilley Gyado, the party’s 2023 governorship candidate for Benue State, said the decision was in line with the ADC constitution and aimed at ensuring stability and continuity in the party’s leadership.
“We unanimously acknowledge, appreciate, and support the voluntary resignation of our former chairman, Ralph Nwosu, who was a father figure to us during the last election. In accordance with the party’s constitution, we endorse the seamless transition of leadership to the only member of the National Working Committee who has not resigned, Hon. Nafiu Bala,” Gyado said.
Gyado stressed that the endorsement did not close the door to new entrants into the ADC, but insisted that due process must be followed.
He urged prospective members from other political parties to resign from their current affiliations and register with the ADC at their ward level in line with the party’s constitution.
According to him, the ADC remains committed to providing constructive opposition and credible alternatives in Nigeria’s democratic process.
“Opposition is a key ingredient for good governance, and the ADC continues to be a formidable platform for offering Nigerians a credible choice,” he added.
The forum reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, the rule of law, and the collective pursuit of good governance, calling on members, supporters, and allies to unite in advancing the party’s vision for a new Nigeria.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Nafiu Bala, expressed gratitude to party leaders, stakeholders, and members for the confidence reposed in him.
“I am deeply honored to accept your endorsement as Acting National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). I pledge to lead this party with integrity, wisdom, and dedication,” Bala said.
He outlined his leadership priorities to include: “Strengthening party structures as an institution.
“Enhancing internal democracy and inclusivity. Promoting policy development and implementing party resolutions.
“Fostering strategic partnerships and alliances. Building a strong, vibrant, and effective leadership team.”
Bala thanked the Board of Trustees, the National Executive Committee, state chairmen, and the 2023 governorship candidates for their support, assuring them of collaborative leadership.
“Together, we will build a stronger, more united, more prosperous, and effective political party in Nigeria. Let us work together to achieve our party’s objectives and build a brighter future for our people and our dear nation,” he said.
