An environmental health expert, Ogbonnaya Akoma, has asserted that the eradication of open defecation is central to successful sanitary inspection in the state.
Akoma stated this to LEADERSHIP on the commencement of the relaunched house- to-house sanitary inspection of premises in the state in Umuahia, the state capital.
He emphasized the need for the provision of functional conveniences in households, school, public, worship, and market places to discourage open defecation.
The expert, who regretted that many households in rural communities do not have conveniences, called on the people to enbide the culture of general hygiene to avoid deseaes.
He further underscored the importance of ensuring appropriate window spaces in buildings as provided in the public health law to avoid airborne deseased.
Akoma urged the public to maintain healthy leaving by improving on their dietary habit through consumption of natural foods and depends less on processed.
Meanwhile, the state government has in collaboration with various agencies and stakeholders mounted multidimensional responses to the predicted flooding of the state this year.
