The National Population Commission (NPC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening migration data collection and management through enhanced collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

Speaking during a courtesy visit by an IOM delegation in Abuja, NPC chairman, Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, emphasised the critical role of partnerships in improving Nigeria’s migration data systems.

He noted that the Commission has fully digitalised its Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) platform, streamlining the data collection process.

“In the past, the NPC relied on physical cards to gather information from travellers at airports; however, this process has now transitioned to a fully digital format,” Kwarra said.

He stressed the need for continued collaboration with relevant agencies to effectively leverage the Advanced Passenger Information System (APS) for migration data sharing and collection, while commending IOM for its sustained support to the Commission.

He highlighted the need for a dedicated migration survey to generate comprehensive data for policy planning.

Earlier, IOM representative Ahmad Aleragi reaffirmed the UN agency’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in building stronger migration data systems.
