The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga named the suspect as Nmesoma Josephine Nwoye and identified the boyfriend as a 24-year-old Chibuike Ogbu.

SP Ikenga said in a statement on Saturday, that operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu in Oyi local government area apprehended Nmesoma and her boyfriend following an intelligence-led operation that uncovered their evil scheme.

He stated that investigation revealed that the suspects actually demanded ₦15 million ransom but ₦3million was transferred into the victim’s account after negotiation.

The police spokesperson said the state Commissioner of police, CP Ikioye Orutugu has expressed deep concern over the development.

CP Orutugu described the incident as a sad reflection of the rising moral decay in the society where young people increasingly resort to criminality for selfish gains.

The CP further urged parents, guardians, and religious leaders to intensify efforts in inculcating discipline, integrity, and sound values in their children and wards.

He also warned youths against engaging in self-destructive ventures, stressing that the long arm of the law will always catch up with criminals.
