Spokesperson of the Command, Abdullahi Kiyawa, in a statement on Saturday, said the incident occurred on September 5, 2025, when officers from Wudil Area Command brought three suspects to Garko Police Division for questioning in connection with a culpable homicide case reported the previous day in Garko local government area.

According to him, during the suspects’ interview, an angry crowd armed with sticks and stones gathered at the police station, protesting the victim’s death and attempted to lynch the arrested suspects.

Kiyawa explained that the mob violently attacked the facility, causing extensive property damage and as well burnt down a police patrol vehicle.

Similarly, the mob destroyed three vehicles belonging to Hisbah Board and shattered the windows of the police building with three police personnel injured and currently receiving treatment at Wudil Hospital.

Kiyawa also explained that tragically, a burning tire burst and struck one of the attackers during the chaos, resulting in his death with three others sustaining injuries.

While responding swiftly, he explained that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori directed a containment operations and stakeholders’ engagements that successfully restored order to the community.

He added that nine suspects have been arrested for their involvement in the mob action, with investigations ongoing to identify additional perpetrators and also into the original homicide case

Kiyawa further cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands, emphasising that such actions undermined the rule of law and disrupt public peace.

He urged them to always channel their grievances through appropriate authorities rather than resorting to violence.
