Ekiti Approves N13bn For Road, Agric, Other Projects

The Ekiti State government has approved over N13 billion to execute road, airport, agriculture and other projects.

The projects were approved at the State Executive Council weekly meeting in Ado Ekiti.

The Special Adviser on Information to the Governor, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, who disclosed this to newsmen, said the council awarded N7,338,630.794.94 for rehabilitating the Ikogosi-Ipole-Efon Alaaye road.

Olatunbosun said the project, to be completed in 24 months, is aimed at easing the hardship of the people, enhancing the socio-economic activities of the axis, and improving the security of lives and property of the people along the route.

He said the state government also awarded N3,866,537,299.57  to construct Aviation Staff Quarters at the Ekiti State Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport, Ado-Ekiti.

Olatubosun, in a statement made available to newsmen, explained that this was part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to ensure the cargo airport’s successful operational take-off.

The construction of 14 residential flats, comprising six two-bedroom flats and eight three-bedroom flats, at the GRA, Ado-Ekiti, is to accommodate the aviation personnel deployed to the facility. These quarters provide a conducive living environment essential for staff productivity and welfare.

“In the agricultural sector,  the council approved a total of N418,990,000.00 for the procurement of seven Toyota Hummer buses and one Toyota Prado SUV for Agricultural operations in Ekiti State,  N86,122,447.50  for the construction of six 2,000-capacity poultry pens in three Senatorial Districts of the state.

“Other approval made to the sector is the award of N638,382,221.40 is the procurement of furniture and equipment for the newly constructed dormitories for participants of the “Bring Back our Youths to Agriculture” Programme, N299,924,772.20  for the Ekiti Broilers Production Scheme for Youth empowerment and  N70,000,000.00  for the capitalization of Fountain Agricultural Marketing Agency (FAMA) for the procurement of Agrochemicals through Direct Labour to meet the state’s needs,’’ he said.

Olatubosun added that to improve some state infrastructure, N65,234,700.55 was awarded for the renovation and upgrade of the Olugbenga Faseluka building, state secretariat, Ado Ekiti, and N78,112,065.12 was awarded to  41 claimants of the additional enumerated buildings for the urban renewal project at Atikankan, Ado-Ekiti.

“Some of N358,344,250.00 was also awarded for establishing Ekiti State fashion and Garment training and production project Phase I,’’ he added.
