Super Eagles star Wilfred Ndidi said his quest for a new challenge motivated him to leave Leicester City for Turkish Super Lig club, Besiktas.

Ndidi brought an end to his long-term spell at the King Power Stadium in August by penning a three-year contract in Istanbul.

The Nigeria vice-captain played over 300 matches in England but his contribution was not enough to help Leicester City avoid back-to-back relegation from the Premier League last season.

He admitted that a top-flight challenge with the chance to play in a completely new and different league influenced his transfer decision.

Ndidi told RG: “I love Leicester City, it still remains home to me but the Besiktas offer came as a new challenge for me.

“The Turkish league is an exciting project. I am always ready to give my best on the pitch in every game.

“I still have friends in Leicester and my experience over there will always remain memorable because of the success we achieved and the great fans who were behind the team even when we struggled.”

Since he joined Besiktas, he has played every minute of their Super Lig games and he is in line to play a part in their home game against city rivals, Istanbul Basaksehir on Saturday.
