Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked media reports that it suspended the proposed delineation of wards in the Warri Federal Constituency, which comprises Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South West Local Government Areas of Delta State.

In a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja by the national commissioner and chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, INEC described the reports as misleading and inaccurate.

It clarified that the alleged suspension of the delineation exercise, which stems from a Supreme Court judgment delivered on 2nd December 2022, is false.

The commission reaffirmed that no final decision has been made, and the process has not been halted.

“Our attention has been drawn to a report published by a national newspaper in which an official of the Commission was misquoted on the proposed delineation of Wards in Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South West Federal Constituency,” the statement read.

“The Commission affirms that, contrary to the report, the proposed delineation has not been suspended, and no final decision has been taken.”

INEC also noted that the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise is proceeding as scheduled in all Local Government Areas within the affected constituency.

While reiterating its commitment to upholding the rule of law and constitutional obligations, the Commission appealed for calm, urging all stakeholders and parties connected to the issue to maintain peace and order.

INEC ensures the public remains committed to transparent and lawful electoral processes.
