Kano State governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called on political appointees and senior government officials to make integrity the hallmark of their service, stressing that honesty and accountability remain critical to good governance.

At a three-day retreat, the governor gave the charge themed ā€œAnti-Corruption, Financial Fraud, Transformational Leadership, and Ethical Values in the Workplaceā€, jointly organised by ANHI Consultants International and the Kano State Government in Kaduna.

In a statement by his spokesman, Sanusi Bature, Governor Yusuf urged participants to ensure that every action, decision, and policy reflects transparency, honesty, and accountability. He said building a legacy of integrity would guarantee a prosperous future for generations.

Warning against corruption, the governor noted that it disproportionately affects the poor and vulnerable, adding that the people of Kano are increasingly impatient with unfulfilled promises. ā€œThey demand action and results. They want a government that works for them, not one that enriches a few. That was why they voted for us in 2023, and we must not disappoint them,ā€ he said.

Governor Yusuf further stressed that government success depends on sound policies and the integrity and professionalism of those entrusted with implementation. He encouraged appointees to remain courageous and committed to doing the right thing despite challenges.

The retreat featured contributions from resource persons, including Dr Aminu I. Gusau, who described the governor’s team as capable of leading Kano to the ā€œpromised land.ā€ Chief of Staff, Dr Sulaiman Sani, and Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farooq, also commended Yusuf’s leadership, noting that his administration had achieved in two years what some predecessors could not in eight.
