Five officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have been killed after being knocked down by reckless drivers while on official duties.

The five officials lost their lives in September 2025 at various duty posts across the country.
In line with this, the corps marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has directed that all motorists responsible for these tragic incidents be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, to serve as a deterrent against future occurrences.

FRSC spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, said these knockdowns happened across the following formations: Ekiti Sector Command on September 6, 2025; Ogun Sector Command on September 8, 2025; Taraba Sector Command on September 15, 2025; Jos By-Pass Unit Command on September 19, 2025; and Obollo Afor Unit Command on September 24, 2025.

He explained that “their deaths are not mere statistics, they represent human lives of dedicated fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and breadwinners, cut short in the line of duty while safeguarding Nigerian roads.”

He further said, “gravely disturbed, the corps marshal noted with great concern the increasing hazards faced by FRSC operatives who, beyond being exposed to speeding vehicles, now also contend with kidnapping, violent attacks, and targeted assaults.”

He stressed that the FRSC will no longer tolerate recklessness that endangers its staff, warning that offenders will be made to face the full weight of the law.

He called on personnel across formations nationwide to exercise a higher level of alertness and ensure their safety is highly prioritised, noting that they need to be safe and alive to save others.

In line with this, the corps is intensifying engagements with relevant authorities to protect its personnel and installations. This measure, he emphasised, is not intended for aggression but as a safeguard to deter assaults and ensure that officers can perform their duties without fear of attack.
