Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have smashed a gang of suspected cultists and arrested two ring leaders with A-K 47 rifle and other offensive weapons.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Akwa Ibom Command, DSP Timfon John, who disclosed this on Friday in Uyo, explained that the arrest was a sting operation carried out by operatives on patrol along Idoro Road in Uyo metropolis.

“In a proactive effort to rid Akwa Ibom State of criminal elements, operatives of the Command have arrested two suspected hoodlums and recovered dangerous weapons in Uyo.

“In the early hours of Thursday, 2nd October, 2025, operatives while on routine patrol along Idoro Road by Abolin Junction, intercepted two suspicious individuals loitering in a dark spot.

“At about 0030hrs, the vigilant patrol team arrested, one Joshua Benjamin, from Ibiaku, Ikono local government area, and Kingsley Friday Michael, from Ikot Ekop, Ibiono Ibom LGA,” she explained.

The Command’s Police Spokesperson listed recovered items from the suspects to include one fabricated revolving AK-47 rifle and one jack knife, among others.

She explained that “upon interrogation, the suspects failed to provide any reasonable explanation for their suspicious presence at that hour,” adding that, instead, they falsely claimed to be security guards but could not present uniforms, means of identification, or any credible source for the firearm found in their possession.
