Former secretary-general of the apex northern socio-cultural organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Anthony Sani, has kicked against the recent presidential pardon for drug traffickers and murderers by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking with our correspondent, he said some of those pardoned had taken the lives of others and caused trauma to the victims’ families.

Sani said the presidential advisory committee on prerogative of mercy should have known that pardon should be exercised with great discretion, and not be made to be counterproductive”

“Some of the pardons of those who have taken lives have caused trauma to the victims’ families, and have rubbished deterrent effects that come with retributive justice. I do not see the wisdom of pardon extended to convicts for drug trafficking, considering the damaging effects of drugs on the sanctity of life,” he stated.
