The Magistrate Court sitting in Kuje, Abuja, has remanded Prince Emmanuel Kanu, the brother of the leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, who has been held in custody for about five years by the federal government.
His lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, was also remanded in custody by the court.
They were arrested during the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest on Monday and arraigned alongside 11 others before the court yesterday.
The accused were arraigned on an allegation of breach of public peace by the police.
The protest grounded activities in the FCT as workers and other residents could not find their way to their destinations.
The police clamped down on the protesters, saying a court order barred them from moving to certain areas of the city.
Last week, the Federal High Court in Abuja was said to have stopped Mr Omoyele Sowore and others from protesting in some areas in Abuja, including Aso Rock Villa, the seat of power on Monday for the release of detained Nnamdi Kanu.
It was gathered that the court barred the protesters from anywhere near the Presidential Villa, National Assembly, Force Headquarters, Court of Appeal, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way pending the hearing of the motion on notice.
Justice Mohammed Umar granted the ex-parte motion moved by Wisdom Madaki, a police lawyer, on behalf of the federal government last Friday.
