Governor of Kano State Abba Yusuf has disbursed N260 million to 5,200 indigent women across the 44 local government areas of the state as part of his administration’s renewed monthly empowerment programme aimed at uplifting vulnerable women and boosting grassroots economic activities.

Speaking during the ceremony at the coronation hall of the Government House, Kano, Yusuf explained that each beneficiary received N50,000, noting that the programme was temporarily suspended following complaints that the funds were not reaching the intended beneficiaries.

“We had to pause, review, and restructure the process to make sure the support truly gets to the most vulnerable women in our rural communities,” the governor said.

He stated that the initiative was conceived during campaign visits to all local councils, where the economic challenges facing women were evident.

The governor emphasised that when properly invested, the N50,000 grant could stimulate small-scale businesses, enhance household income, and transform livelihoods at the grassroots.

Yusuf reiterated that the empowerment scheme was a collaborative effort between the state government and local government chairmen, urging beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds for the progress of their families and communities.
