The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has honoured the Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, with a distinguished award of excellence in recognition of his outstanding support for sports development in the state.
The award was presented at a ceremony marking the Association’s 60th anniversary, held at the VIP Lounge of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
Governor Buni was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Hon. Abdullahi Bego, who received the award on behalf of his behalf.
The presentation was made by to Governo Buni by Phillip Shaibu, former Deputy Governor of Edo State and current Director-General of the National Institute of Sports (NIS).
SWAN said, Governor Buni was recognised for his administration’s continuous investment in the sports sector, particularly the ongoing massive rehabilitation and upgrading of the August 27 Stadium in Damaturu, which was aimed at creating a modern sporting arena for the youth and sports lovers in the state.
Speaking after receiving the award, Hon. Bego described the honour as a well-deserved recognition of Governor Buni’s vision and commitment to advancing sports infrastructure and youth development across Yobe State.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youths and Sports, Hon. Mohammed Gidado Abubakar; the Executive Director, Sports Council, Dr. Abubakar Ago; Chairman, Yobe Desert Stars, Hon. Mohammed Alkali Accama (Sarkiyo); Chairman, Yobe State SWAN, Joel Duku; and General Manager, Yobe Television, Mallam Yusuf Isa, were among the Yobe delegation present at the event.
